Our Review of the Stokke Xplory Complete

The STOKKE® XPLORY® Complete, seen here, is a complete Stokke of Norway package that includes:

  • XPLORY® Stroller
  • XPLORY® harness seat for kids up to 45 lbs
    • W/ Rain cover
  • XPLORY® bassinet for babies to sleep soundly
    • W/ Rain cover
    • W/ Mosquito net
  • Shopping bag

The STOKKE® XPLORY® stroller is at the cutting edge of an emerging trend in European stroller design, blending a distinct visual aesthetic with larger rear wheels for stability over uneven terrain. The result is an avant-garde take on an everyday parenting necessity that takes fashion and functionality to new levels. Honestly, we've never seen anything like the STOKKE® XPLORY®. And since we're sort of experts when it comes to these things, we're sure you haven't either . . . unless you've been searching for it.

The Height Advantage

The extra seat height and angled design of the STOKKE® XPLORY® Stroller provides these benefits:

  • Your child has a better perspective on his or her surroundings
  • You do not need to bend over as much to touch or pick them up
  • When dining out or stopping at a café, the XPLORY® doubles as a highchair
  • A closer physical connection while strolling

Make no mistake, the XPLORY® is a completely new take on walking strollers. Beyond its eye-catching ergonomic design, this stroller is elegantly simple. It's set up in such a way that you can maintain a close connection with your son or daughter without losing a step.

The XPLORY® Stroller is the Nexus of Movement and Togetherness

A stroller is an active parent's means of mobility. Not only should it be able to roll over most surfaces, it needs to fit in your trunk or closet as well. With this in mind, the designers at STOKKE® devised a means for the rear wheels to fold inward. This makes the XPLORY® stroller resemble a pull-cart, moking it easy to get up and down steps or over rough terrain. In addition, the XPLORY® folds up compactly to fit in your trunk or closet. (Please Note: you must remove the seat or bassinet before folding.)

The XPLORY® stroller's simplicity stems from the central bar that connects the handlebar, seat, base, and wheels together. This spinal cord-like angled column not only connects the essential components, it allows the XPLORY®'s tiny passenger to ride at an ideal level -- and gain the Height Advantage.

The height and angle of the XPLORY®'s handle is fully adjustable, meaning that this stroller is excellent for parents of any stature. Thanks to the wide wheelbase, the XPLORY® is very stable and accommodating of taller parents who take long strides. There is also a footbrake for parking.

XPLORY® Seating is Safe, Soft, and Secure

The XPLORY® Complete comes with both the standard seat and the XPLORY® bassinet. The standard seat of the XPLORY® is high, reversible, and offers both an adjustable footrest and different recline settings. It also has a retractable sun canopy. These qualities keep your child closer to you while you stroll, promote eye contact, and allow you to tailor their comfort perfectly.

Ideal for infants, the XPLORY® bassinet has a thick padded mattress and a retractable sun canopy.

This STOKKE® stroller is also a travel system. We carry two car seat adaptors for the XPLORY®, one for Graco infant carseats and another for the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP

There's also a wide range of matching accessories for the XPLORY®:

Bottom Line: A stroller as elegant and beneficial to families as the XPLORY® is very hard to find. This stroller is truly exclusive, in both form and function. The XPLORY®'s only major disadvantage (and this is almost universal with European strollers) it the lack of a cupholder. Big deal. In terms of storage, the XPLORY® has a 'shopping bag' with enough space for about 3 one-gallon milk jugs. While not the biggest storage basket around, there definitely enough room for the essentials.

Love it

The Stokke Xplory has been great. We use both the seat and the bassinet. We love the height of it, both for walking, and for having him sit beside us at the table. It's like a little rolling high-chair for a newborn. The bassinet is where he sleeps every night (on a table beside our bed). Besides being very functional, it's also the best looking stroller on the market, by far.

4 years and still great

I bought the Stokke Xplory Complete stroller in 2004 for my first baby. Had a Peg & hated it. Now getting ready for baby #3 and have used only the Stokke for 4 years. Actually sent one back to Stokke in Atlanta and they replaced it at no charge (including shipping)Amazing service. Only real advice is get an extra set of textiles, especially if you plan on using it for a long time. They do last, but tend to get stained. I've used this in suburb as well as urban settings, amazing in either situation. A bit bulky for car trunk (BMW 3 series) but worth tossing other stuff out to make it work. Be prepared to demo this thing to everyone! Have yet to not get asked about it (from Wal-mart to Nordstrom) especially by Dads... Only true downside is not designed to work for more than 1 child. Advise getting it and buy a bike lock if you have to leave it parked.

The best stroller EVER!

5
Reviewer: Tara , New York, NY Date: August 06, 2008
Let me start by saying I am an industrial engineer and appreciate multi-use, elegantly designed products. Because of this, I actually became acquainted with the Stokke Xplory Complete stroller before I was pregnant and knew I had to have it. Now that my son is a year old, has been on 9 round-trip flights, and have used a "loner" stroller I can honestly say this is the best stroller you could possibly find. Benefits: My son is up high and up until recently was facing me. This enabled me to tell if he needed anything right away such as if the sun was in his eyes or he was getting too much wind. Now that he's facing out, he can see out windows on the train and interact with everyone around him. We use it as a high-chair in restaurants and never have to worry about the sanitation of restaurant high chairs. It is easy to take on the subway as the wheels allow you to use it like a hand truck. Even though I'm not a large woman I don't need help taking it up and down stairs. My husband and I have a height difference of a food and we can both adjust it to fit perfectly to us. Even our 6'7" friend can push it without kicking the stroller or bending over. It is durable, we have taken it on several car trips and gate checked it on 18 flights, it still works perfectly. The bassinet is curved on the bottom so it also acts as a cradle. When it is on the base, it is high enough to use as a changing table as we did when he was still sleeping in our room. The shopping bag is HUGE and I can do a weeks' food shopping in it. It's easier to push than an umbrella stroller. The wheels have air bubbles instead of tubes which means baby gets a smooth ride and I'll never be stranded with a flat tire. Cons: I don't think there really is any. Some people say a cup holder, but I use the side pockets of my clip-on diaper bag to hold drinks which works just fine. When you look at the price consider everything it does: stroller from birth to 4 High chair impromptu changing table cradle Moses basket 5 chair reclining positions Can go up and down stairs with ease No stroller compares in features vs. price.

worth every penny

Reviewer: XploryInDC , Washington, DC Date: June 20, 2008
I purchased the complete Stokke Xplory, which comes with the bassinet attachment (for new born to 6 months), the standard seat (for 6 months onward), and some accessories (blanket, rain cover, mosquito netting and shopping bag). I also purchased the car seat adapters (for the Peg Perego seat).
So far, I have only used the bassinet and car seat adapters. Both configurations are great. It's really, really comfortable (for the parents) to have the baby so high. There's no need to bend way down low to attend to her as with regular strollers. It's also nice to have the baby facing us (the only configuration if you are using the bassinet and car seat; the standard seat can face backward or forward). While the baby's so little, it's important for us to catch her grimacing before she starts crying, and we can do that with the Stokke. That being said, you have the option of lowering the height of the attachments (bassinet/car seat/standard seat) if you want. Also, the stroller feels solid.
Another plus is that all sorts of people will comment on the Stokke and admire it, from other parents to motorcycle riders to 8-year old boys. The downside is that other parents who tell you they thought about getting the Stokke (but didn't) have this look of regret or envy and stare at the stroller while they talk to you, instead of looking at you or your cute baby.
Other (minor) downsides to the stroller, which are all super minor compared to the major pluses, are: even collapsed and disassembled (i.e., car seat or bassinet or seat removed), it is bulkier than an umbrella stroller, so you must reserve some trunk space for it (but the thin profile means you can fit things around it); the dark gray plastic (at the wheel base and handle) will show heavy scratches (minor ones are invisible); and the colors of the stroller don't exactly match the colors of the car seats that work with the adapters. Also, the front wheels are smooth and work well on most normal surfaces, including park trails, but, as with any stroller without bicycle-sized wheels, DC potholes can be a challenge sometimes. Also, if it's also pretty pricey if you ignore the fact that you will be using it for about 3 years of your life.
On balance, the comfort, looks, quality and especially the comfort of the stroller for both parents and baby, and the fact that we will be using it for about 3 years, not only justify the price tag, they make it totally worth it.

Reviews of the stokke stroller are easily found from all over the place. So let me talk about this company. I found this site from stokke.com. And I chose it because of the cheapest price. But their service is overall awesome. Strong boxing for my products and super fast shipping. And you know that no tax and no shipping fee. Couldn't be better. :)

Great City Stroller

4
Reviewer: Debra , London UK Date: August 20, 2007
We bought this stroller in 2005 and then I upgraded it to work with the bassinet. This stroller is not one to travel with or to use while getting in and out of a car. But it's great for city - it's narrow, very easy to push and easily be pulled up and down steps and goes on escalators when the rear wheels are pushed forward. I travel quite a bit on public transport - buses and tube and it works great. But does break down to big pieces so it is quite cumbersome to travel with and to put in a car. I leave mine put together in my house at all times. My son loves it though b/c he is up high and can see everything - it has such a comfy seat and I get constantly stopped and asked about it - it is an eyecatcher. But would never need outside a big city where you drive everywhere and have elevators- it's not for that - there are many other strollers out there better suited for quick traveling around with a car that would have better portablity and would not need to pull a stroller up and down steps b/c of no escaltor/elevators as it is very common on the tube in London. I would give it 5 stars if it broke down easier and more compact.

Amazing Stroller!!!

5
Reviewer: Epinions.com User , NYC Date: May 24, 2007
I have had this stroller for about 8 months now and we absolutely love it. I feel it is the best stroller on the market today - period. I live in NYC and probably use the Stokke for about 3 miles per day so it gets very thorough and intense testing. My son loves the high seating position - not the bottom feeding position of most strollers. Although it looks big due to its height it is so easy to maneuver with one hand and have the other hand free for coffee or in my case my dog. It has a nice smooth ride and appears to be made of high quality materials. The one negative is that the zipper on the rain cover broke last week but the customer service was absolutely outstanding - they went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied. The only other con (or pro?) I can think of is that you are constantly stopped by people telling you what a cool stroller you have!

A Truely Wonderful Stroller

5
Reviewer: Anonymous , Virginia Beach, VA Date: May 24, 2007
I purchased this stoller because I loved the idea of having our son higher from the ground. I thought it was an excellent design and I've never seen anything like it. Although this stroller is more then most it is well worth it. We receive so many compliments on this stroller every time we go out. It's much smoother then most strollers too. It's great because it fits through most areas that other strollers do not and it's also great for crowded areas because it is rather compact for a full size stroller. It works well on both smooth and rough terrains. Another great thing about this stroller is everything, from the seat to the handle, is adjustable. Out of all the strollers I currently own this is by far my favorite.
