Our Review of the Schwinn Joyrider Jogger

The Schwinn Joyrider Jogger is a high performance running stroller from Schwinn. The Schwinn brand comes through with consistent strollers that balance performance with price, and the Joyrider is no exception. Designed with dedicated runners and sprinters in mind, the Schwinn Joyrider features 20" aluminum alloy wheels, a handbrake, and mesh venting at the back of the seat. Couple these elements with a responsive suspension system, and you've got one of the smoothest rides available.

In terms of quality, the Schwinn Free Runner LT is a close comparison to the Joyrider, but the Joyrider favors those who take their stroller workouts very seriously. In addition to its marathon-runner friendly design, the Joyrider is packed to the handles with conveniences that any parent can appreciate

The Schwinn Joyrider features a padded adjustable handlebar, so mom or dad can take it out for a run without having to lean in or hunch over. The alloy handbrake and wrist tether provide an added measure of safety, and thanks to the easy fold and quick release wheels the entire stroller is relatively easy to store or transport. For your convenience, there is also a parent tray for drinks and personal items, as well as a large underside storage basket and additional storage behind the seat.

The Joyrider is easy on your passenger too. No matter how hard and fast you push, they're guaranteed to stay secure and comfortable in the well padded reclining seat and 5-point harness. The ventilated seat back lets a breeze fly through the cockpit while you're on a run, and an included weather shield zips into the canopy to keep them clean and dry should the weather take a turn.

How does the Schwinn Joyrider Jogger compare with the Baby Jogger Performance running stroller?

The only other 20" wheeled running stroller of note is the Baby Jogger Performance Single or Performance Double jogging stroller.

Compared to the Joyrider, the Baby Jogger Performance Single:

  • Is 2lbs lighter
  • Has a 'floating' sun canopy that shades from any angle
  • Includes a V-Brake for improved tracking and stopping power
  • Has a one-handed, one-step recline for the seat
  • Is car seat compatible
  • Comes with a Lifetime Warranty for the frame
  • Does not have an adjustable handlebar
  • Baby Jogger does NOT come with a rain/weather shield

Bottom Line: The frame design of the Schwinn Joyrider is a direct nod to the Baby Jogger Performance Series. Evident in the now-rare 20" wheels, tight profile and a front wheel pushed out well ahead of the footrest. 20" wheeled jogging strollers are a dying breed, but remain the ideal acquisition for parents who take their fitness seriously. One important thing to note is that anystroller with 20" wheels will not fold up compactly without first removing all three wheels. Without doing so, you'll be hard pressed to get one into your trunk, though a truck or SUV bed should pose no problem.

Fantastic running stroller!!

Reviewer: John , Redmond, WA Date: August 02, 2008
This is an excellent product. Very, very easy to assemble. It took me 5 minutes from out of the box to ready to run. Great engineering all round. Many well thought out features, that make it easy to use, fold down for transporting in a car, and most importantly, to run efficiently. We have an older Baby Jogger , which we like, but the Schwinn Joyrider Jogger Stroller is even better

I would reccomend this jogger for anyone training for a marathon. The 20 inch wheels give a smooth ride over bumps, curbs and all terrian. My daughter is well supported and sleeps well...like a baby. The only downside is the directions to assemble can be a little difficult to follow. But once you get it together, it runs smooth as butter!

I order this stroller to use to run with my daughter who is under 50lbs and she was too tall. Do not buy this stroller if you child is over 3ft tall they will not fit.

Comments from The Staff:

We appreciate your feedback. Here's what the manufacturer had to say: As a parent, I truly understand your concern for child's comfort. However, we feel confident that this product, though designed slightly different than others, is very competitive in the space and roominess offered, among all brands of jogging strollers, even those at much higher retail prices. We do however value your feedback and will take your comments to heart. I hope you return to the Schwinn brand in the future.

Top Notch

Reviewer: Martin , New York, NY Date: June 06, 2007
All I can say is "this jogger is great!" I live in New York and run 3-4 days a week. Most of my running is off -road on the Bridal Path by the resevoir- and if you've ever been there, you know it has huge potholes and lots of gravel, let alone dogs, horses, cars etc. It handles all the potholes and constant back and forth movement so well, my baby usually falls asleep. No problem though, the harness and extra padding keep my 1 year old nice and secure. The suspension actually works when you go over the rough terrain, and the huge 20" wheels roll over everything. All the extra storage is great- I can bring extra clothing and my keys, a water bottle, my phone etc- and it's all safe and doesn't fall out. The big bonus- the built in rain shield. It works and keeps my baby dry and warm, and it is always right there. Another bonus is the compact fold up size- my tiny NY apartment can actually accomodate it. I bought this jogger because I knew Schwinn has been making bikes forever and they know how to put wheels to the ground, with integrity. I was right, and just wait till you get it on pavement- it rolls like Butta. I highly recommend this one.
