Our Review of the Phil and Teds Classic Stroller

The Phil and Teds Classic delivers Phil and Teds Inline innovation - easy steering across a variety of urban landscapes, a double your buggy option, and countless comfort options - with a value-driven price point. While the Phil and Teds Classic isn't made for jogging, parents may use the stroller for both city pushing and trail walking.

With the right Phil and Teds accessories, the Classic Stroller has four possible modes:

  • Single infant
  • Single toddler
  • Baby and toddler
  • Two toddler mode

Is it for you? The Phil and Teds Classic stroller is for thrifty parents with one or two children. Families starting with one child and growing to two appreciate the Doubles Kit, which turns the Phil and Teds Classic into a tandem double.

Why you will love it: A veritable workhorse, the Phil and Teds Classic not only takes families from point A to point B with ease thanks to an easily maneuverable swivel wheel, the Classic also expands to a double when baby number 2 arrives. Thoughtful details such as a large under seat storage basket and tough washable waterproof fabric handle the everyday rough and tumble of parenting.

Convenience: A foot-operated parking brake allows moms or dads to stop the stroller on inclines with a quick tap of their toes. A front swivel wheel corners store aisles with ease and locks forward for added control over rough terrain. Transport the stroller from home to car to mall with little effort - the Classic folds flat for storage in trunks. Add a Phil and Teds Car Seat Adapter for Graco or Peg Perego infant car seats to turn your Classic into a total travel system.

Comfort: The handlebar adjusts to two positions, accommodating caretakers of differing heights. If you're still worried you'll be kicking the wheels, check out the Phil and Teds SP, which offers a fully adjustable handlebar. Air tires handle even rough pavement while removable rear mud guards protect your favorite pair of pants.

Safety:

  • 5-point safety harness
  • Foot brake
  • Meets 5 international safety standards

Why baby will love it:  Kids big or small ride in absolute comfort and safety in the Phil and Teds Classic. Both seats are well padded, and the main seat reclines flat for when they get sleepy. Children love having their own special seat when the stroller is in tandem mode.

Comfort: Children ride comfortably in the main seat, which feature a tether recline to two positions - fully reclined and fully upright, allowing both after lunch naps and post nap people watching. Although the doubles attachment does not recline, children feel super comfortable in the soft padded seat. The SP features more reclining capabilities for parents needing a stroller that partially reclines. A sun canopy protects baby's delicate skin from the sun's rays.

Comparison: While many parents appreciate the thrifty simplicity of the Phil and Teds Classic, some might want a few extras. The Phil and Teds SP Stroller features more recline options, an adjustable handlebar, and comes in multiple colors (the Classic comes only in red). While the SP costs more, the addition of these features might tip the scales for some. For a traditional side-by-side double stroller, consider the Phil and Teds Twin stroller

LOVE it but Fading away...

Reviewer: Anne , Racine, WI Date: September 06, 2008
I and My husband, yes my husband who doesn't normally like to push a stroller, Absolutely have fallen IN LOVE with this stroller! It is well worth the $$ and more.I have been using this stroller for everything! Walking, Jogging,Beach -lock the front wheel and plowing through the sand is a cinch!, Shopping-finally a double you can actually shop with--clothing shop--easily maneuvers through the tight racks at Macy's,etc. :) It is a smooth ride and both my children love it. They take long naps in it. It is everything and more except there is one thing I am unhappy with and 2 things that could use some improvement. I have Orange and it has faded so much already and it is not quite a year old. I have used it pretty much everyday this summer (the short 3monhths of summer in WI)so it has been in the sun alot but I would expect a little less fading for the price. I have a Maclaren I used religiuosly prior that has not faded and it is 3 years old and it went to the beach with me also. Improvement areas are: sun shade doesn't quite shade the child riding up front, 2nd, I have tall children and I am concerned that a few more inches and my 1 yr old will no longer fit in the jump seat as her head will hit the bar on the jump seat.I still got my money's worth and will still give this a 5. Highly recommend purchasing!Oh and customer service is great. I haven't called about the items I mentioned but when I first purchased I needed a new sun shade as the one in the box was snagged they sent another no quetions asked right away and ther was no mess returning the defective one. A+++ for customer service still thinking about contacting them re the fading.

WONDERFUL

We love this stroller! It's great when you have 2 kids and have the ability to use the stroller as a single or double because let's face it...toddlers don't always want to ride. It's so great to have a stroller that converts! It has definite upgrades to the sport including safety features that we were THRILLED they addressed. We love the look and it has an extremely smooth ride. I don't feel like I'm pushing a bus and it's perfect for exercising too, it accomplishes a single, double and joggler all in one. So even though it's expensive, I feel it saved us money by not having to buy 4 different strollers to accomplish what this ONE can. LOVE the adjustable handle, my husband and I have different hight needs, the single I had before this was hard on my husband's back because he had to bend over to push it. He loves the way it looks and handles and now we fight over who gets to push the stroller. I shopped for 6 months trying to find the perfect stroller and when this one was released, I found my perfect stoller and I'm loving it!

Great form, function lacking

I have 5 children aged 9 years to 5 weeks. I have owned MANY strollers. I bought this stroller when I was expecting my 4th. If you read the many other reviews of P&T strollers, you'll get a good feeling for their strengths and weaknesses. The only other comment I would add is that the 5 point "safety" harness system on the seats is poorly designed. The push tabs are too easy to unlock, and my 19 month old lets herself out at will. Not safe or convenient, especially with the 5 week old asleep underneath (my stroller is a double). They need to switch to a lock that is harder to figure out, and much harder to execute!

Comments from The Staff:

While we have not heard this complaint before, I have forwarded your concerns to the manufacturer. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
