Our Review of the Peg Perego Skate stroller

ON SALE for $599.99! Regularly priced at $899.99. Save $300 (33%)

The Italian made Peg Perego Skate Stroller combines the style of a luxury stroller with the practical features any caretaker needs when taking care of baby. Sleek lines give way to a seat that converts from a bassinet to a toddler seat with just a few clicks and that moves up and down the frame to allow baby to see the world and ride closer to you. The included cup holder, rain cover, and car seat adapter make this Kind + Jugend Innovation award-winning Peg Perego Stroller good to go.

BENEFITS FOR MOM & DAD

Parents love the all-in-one convenience of the Skate. With a bassinet that converts to a toddler seat and compatibility with the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP or Peg Perego SIP 30/30 infant car seats, the Skate takes families through any adventure from infancy through toddlerhood. Parent friendly conveniences like a cup holder and under seat storage area give mom and dad a place to keep their necessities close to hand.

Convenience: Bring baby close to you, and convert the Skate into an impromptu high chair by moving the seat up and down the frame. To accommodate infants, the Skate's bassinet lays completely flat, and when baby grows bigger and wants to see the world, the bassinet converts to a toddler seat with just a few clicks. In both bassinet and toddler seat mode, your child can face either toward you or away.

Carry your favorite drink in the included cupholder, and put any odds and ends in the underseat basket, which features expandable mesh that holds just about anything you throw in it. Add the coordinating Borsa Skate Diaper Bag to hold all of baby's needs, plus anything you need to keep easily accessible.

At 33 lbs, the Skate is certainly not light, but remains maneuverable up curbs and into the trunk. Fold the stroller with the seat either attached or removed. The Skate folds tightly, though not as compactly as some lightweight strollers. When folded, the front swivel wheel allows you to roll the stroller from point a to point b, just like wheeled luggage. Folded with the seat attached, the Skate is 33 2/3" x 23" x 19 1/2".

Pushability: Push the Skate without kicking the wheels or hunching over thanks to the telescoping handle, which keeps even the tallest comfortable. The Skate's four fully suspended wheels glide effortlessly over bumps and cracks in the pavement. Flip the footbrake down with your toe to hold the stroller in place.

Compatibility: The Peg Perego Skate Stroller includes a car seat adapter that accepts a single Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP or Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 infant car seat. Fashions to match the Skate are available only with the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30.

BENEFITS FOR JACK OR JILL
Your little one rides comfortably laying in the bassinet, sitting up in the toddler seat, or reclining near flat for post-lunch naps. Generous padding throughout the seat keeps little tooshies happy while the bumper bar provides little hands a place to rest or grab. Attach toys or pacifiers to the bumper bar to give baby something to play with.

Comfort: Children stay dry on rainy days thanks to the included rain cover. On sunny days, the generous canopy protects baby blues. Babies love how the telescoping seat allows them to come closer to mom or dad, leading to better bonding. The seat adjusts to become a bassinet or toddler seat. The toddler seat reclines to flat for post-lunch naps. An adjustable footrest keeps your little angel at their most comfortable.

COMPARISON

Drawn to the telescoping seat adjustability of the Skate? Check out the Stokke Xplory Stroller, which promotes bonding by allowing baby to ride closer to you. The Xplory Complete includes a stroller, rain cover, bassinet, and shopping bag, but the seat does not have the all-in-one bassinet/toddler seat capabilities of the Peg Perego Skate.

For parents looking for versatility, the Bugaboo Cameleon comes complete with bassinet and stroller seat. Plus, parents can customize their Cameleon with a wide array of available colors. While the Cameleon forgoes the all-in-one telescoping seat capabilities of the Skate, the ability to personalize the stroller may appeal to some. The Cameleon must also be folded by removing the seat first while the Skate can be folded with the seat attached.

Amazing All around

General Review This stroller has everything. Originally when I purchased it I did not like it as much but when my baby was finally born and I actually got outside with the stroller it was hands down the best investment we ever could have made. I spend 5 months of my pregnancy researching strollers, and what sold my husband and I on the Skate was the simple fact that the manuvarability of this stroller is UNMATCHED by any other stroller we looked into- including the Bugaboo. There is a variety of Pros to this stroller, I will list all the ones I can think of. Pros * Lovely Bassinet * ONE PIECE fold (HUGE HUGE THING for me) * Easy to remove wheels and make compact * Heavy Duty Stroller/ Solid Metal Frame * Highly Adjustable in all ways * Height Adjustable (BIG DEAL to me as I wanted an Xplory Originally but did not favor the fold of it or overall design just the height) This is one of the few strollers with a height adjustable seats and it Makes a huge difference * Front/Back facing option of seat * Bassinet and Seat is ONE IN THE SAME!!!! Big deal again- living in NYC one does not have tons of space to store extra stroller parts. * The frame is very very beautiful . * Excellent and easy intergration with the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 Car seat * Comes with Cup Holder AND Car seat adapters * Handlebar adjusts both by being pulled out and by being able to be at different angles- including down so that another child can reach and push the stroller * EXTREMELY EASY TO PUSH- even with one hand and tons of groceries on the bottom.... it never skips a beat * The net DOES hold a lot of things and is not as inconvieniet as it looks * The sun shade is LARGE and covers the baby very well - Comes with Raincover but no mosquito net * EASY EASY fold- Step on fold button, pull triggers as you push down- done! (this is for the chassis once the seat is in position) * ROOMY ROOMY Bassinet * Can Hold a child up to 45 pounds- so this stroller with LAST * Has fully adjustable and removable handle bar (I find these annoying so i am glad I have the option to fully remove it) * Comes with HUGE TIRES that are fully removable and Tire Pump- Front tires can be locked in place if needed Cons: * not going to lie - it is heavy but it is not large in the wheel base- i get around the Brooklyn stores easily. * Not a travel stroller- so do not expect easy intergration with subway / bus travel. This is great for people who walk around a lot or go by car in the suburbs * The cup holder extends a bit beyond the wheel base which can be annoying as it gets hit on the side of walls when you go through a tight space or out of an elevator (small elevator) * The Net on the bottom is great but it could be better if it was a huge flat metal surface of some kind- but this is more a of a neutral as the net does hold a lot of stuff and holds the stuff well. Overall from all my research and stroller looking I can honestly say I made the best decision. This is the most useful item we purchased and the baby even sleeps in it most nights. The manuvarability is to die for- even on old Brooklyn sidewalks- it moves like a knife through butter. It is a Peg- and they have been around for a long time which was a plus for me. There is a lack of optional accesories because this stroller is new but I am sure that will change over time.... Not that there is really anything I would urgently want for this stroller to have as everything is included. In regards to the biggest con of weight- you have to consider what you will use this stroller for- I rarely if ever actually lift the stroller because I mainly walk with it, and when i have to put it in the car it is not a big deal at all for me. I find no difference in lifting 25 pounds to the 32 that the Skate weights. Plus the extra benefits and sturdy frame are worth the extra weight imho.

After setting our hearts on every other high-end stroller on the market, we went with the Skate and couldn't be happier. Why? It's incredibly well made and NOT made in China. Bugaboo, Orbit -- made in China. Mutsy is assembled in Holland from all Chinese parts. $800+ for a stroller made with some of the the cheapest labor and lowest quality standards in the world makes you feel like someone's having a joke on your behalf. Plus, we have no confidence in the safety of Chinese-made goods. The Skate is 100% (from fabric to zipper pulls) made in Italy, and it shows. (Stokke is also made in Europe -- just to be fair -- but it didn't really appeal to us, especially at its much higher price point). This is the Ferrari of strollers. At 30+ pounds, it's a little heavy to put in a car in one piece, but it does come apart and the base only weighs 20lbs. Also, that extra weight means LOTS of extra stability. Going back to Ferrari analogy, it drives like a dream. Very smooth and super easy to push. The multi-height seat (the one thing we really liked about the Stokke) makes for an instant highchair. Also, the multiple reclining positions and instant seat-to-cot conversion (no extra pieces to worry about) is a godsend. Some people complain about the lack of storage, but we prefer the storage net, as it holds lots of packages when out shopping. Overall, if you're in the market for a high-end stroller and really want a quality product that's not going to have quality control issues (like lead paint on zipper pulls), go with the Skate or the Stokke. Bang-for-the-buck, the Skate beats the Stokke, however, so that's why we ultimately went with it. Couldn't be happier!
