Ray Shade

I really like this shade. We live in Houston, TX where the sun can be brutal. This shade allowed me to not have to slather my boys with sunscreen every time I wanted to walk or jog. Most strollers don't come with a sufficient canopy (especially if you want leg protection). This works great. There is one caveat though...I put zip lock bags of dry rice in each side pocket of the ray shade to weigh it down so it would stay in place. As a result, the shade extended farther out towards the front wheel covering more leg. I can get total body coverage depending on where the sun is. This set up has lasted me almost 4 years and I am about to transfer it to a new jogger. Also, it retracts and extends super easily.

This shade attached in about 1 minute to my Maclaren umbrella stroller (which has a sorry excuse for a sun visor!). It very effectively blocks the sun. Also, my daughter loves to pull it down to create her own litte "fort" when she wants some personal space! I leave it on the stroller all the time and just pull it out over the stroller visor when necessary and scrunch it back when we don't need it. It's been on the stroller for about 18 months and shows no wear.

I read the reviews for this and decided despite some negative comments to give it a try since it was so cheap....at first I was impressed with this shade because it attached quite easily to my stroller and actually provided shade to my baby (although not as much as it looks like it would - his legs were never protected from the sun even though it looked liked they would be because the shade is so big). My stroller is a pretty typical stroller, nothing special or comlpicated about it. But yes, it did flip up in the wind or even a small breeze very easily and i had to weigh it down which didn't really work because it is so flimsy. After about 2 weeks it lost its shape completely and the front of it flipped up and no longer provided coverage AT ALL. Piece of junk.

Comments from The Staff:

Hmmm, makes me think it might be a product defect? This particular purchase wasn't made through our online webstore, but if I'd received this phone call, I would have sent the customer a replacement, if her product fell apart after only two weeks.

Thanks!

I am very pleased with this sun shade. When I first received it I thought I got scammed because it looks like nothing. But it does the job very effectively. It's super easy to attach and when not needed the shade pulls back out of the way. Depending on the angle of the sun, I can have it partially or fully extended. I've used ours for almost a year and it's held its shape. It also packs up very compactly for traveling. It's the best I've found for maximum sun coverage. It fits both my full size Evenflo travel system stroller and my lightweight Peg Aria, which has a very small canopy. On my recommendation my cousin got one and it works on her full size and her small Zooper also. I've read other reviews complaining it doesn't fit but I've tried it on many strollers of friends and it works. I think you just need to be creative in how you tie it to the stroller. I expect this shade will work on most strollers. I can see that some kids may dislike the reduced field of view when the shade is fully extended. I started using it when my daughter was only 3 months old so I think she got used to it. She's never had a problem with the reduced view. My cousin started using it recently on her 11 mos old and her baby doesn't fuss either. I now give this sun shade to every friend with young kids. It's a great and inexpensive shower gift. It's one of those things you can't live without once you have it.
