Our Review of the InSTEP Quick N EZ bike trailer

New from InStep for 2007: The Instep Quick N EZ now comes with

  • New Colors
  • Mag Wheels instead of Steel Hubs
  • Comes with Stroller Conversion Kit

The design focus of the InSTEP Quick N EZ is on economy. If your objective in shopping for a bike trailer is to find something at a low price range without many bells and whistles, the Quick N EZ definitely fits that bill. If you want a trailer that will withstand a lot of abuse, and perhaps convert to a jogging stroller, you should look into some of the higher end models like a Burley or Chariot. The InStep Quick N EZ is aptly named: it's about the most basic a bicycle trailer you'll find.

The 16" rear wheels of the Quick N EZ are designed for streets, sidewalks and paved paths. This trailer would not be a good choice for rugged terrain or off-road use . . . it's just not built for them. No tools are required to assemble and disassemble the Quick N EZ, which is a nice benefit. It maintains a relatively low profile and folds up compactly for those times when you need to store it somewhere. The only tool you will need is a wrench to attach the piece that permanently fits on your bike wheel, known as the "tow bar couple plate".

The frame of the Quick N EZ is powder coated steel?making the total weight of the trailer 28 lbs. Lighter trailers frames are made of aluminum alloy, such as the the Instep Quick N Lite. Aluminum is not only lighter than steel, but extremely durable and resistant to rust. The canopy and base of the Quick N EZ are waterproof and built to withstand quite a bit of abuse. It also has a clear, drop-down window on the canopy to protect the riders against the elements.

The Quick N EZ can handle two kids up to 100 lbs. total, and InStep has installed a double harness system for their safety. An extra storage space in the rear holds necessities like tire pumps, locks and water.

  • Included with the Quick N EZ is a kit (with a handlebar and a smaller pneumatic tire) that converts the trailer into a walking stroller.

TipToeTurtle.com has a wide assortment of bike trailers that convert to strollers (many of which are of a higher quality than the Quick N EZ).

great and easy

Reviewer: Laurie S, , Blairstown, NJ Date: September 15, 2007
This product is great - it took me with no help or tools about 10 minutes to put this together; it folds easily and does exactly what it says. As a bike trailer my daughter loves it and it is sooo easy to connect to the bike, once you bolt on the connector (which was not hard) it is a quick connect that is seconds. As a trailer the arm sticks out a bit in the front - but it drives well and is not a problem for outdoor use (wouldn't want to walk the mall with it though)......all in all - I would recommend.

Happy Mom

I bought this product on clearance from a place going out of business. It was the best investment ever! My 5 year old and 14 month old fit well in it together. I live and ride on gravel, and it rides surprisingly well. I really do not feel like I'm pulling any extra weight unless the young'ns are jumping around inside the trailer. Remember, this is on GRAVEL roads! Would never recommend spending $300+ when I've had such good luck with something much cheaper. Will note though, mine was an older version and one of the snaps that holds the kid cover broke the second time I used the trailer. That is the only reason I gave it a four star rating instead of five. It is still very much useable and my kids have a blast in it.

Grandpa is happy

This is my first trailer and is being used with my new Mountain Bike (Trance 4 by Giant). The other reviews sum it up very well. I'm impressed at how well this pulls - the trailer tracks perfect and has no problem going over curbs... I only plan on riding on paved surfaces but it seems to go through grass just fine. The good: quick set-up, mag tires, good instructions (not that I used them), one or two kids, secure harness, lots of room for toys and storage. The Bad: Attaching the tow bracket to a bike with a Quick release is not possible unless you happen to have an extra long quick-release. I had to modify one that I had. Other mfgs supply an extended release (you need about 170mm). Also, the harness straps are hard and irritate the kids necks (easily fixed with some soft blanket material and a stapler). Overall, for $120, this is a great value and an excellent starter. Was not sure if my 1 year old would even tolerate the trailer, and did not want a $400 mistake. She seems to like the ride, sleeps most of the time or sings.

My husband and I take turns with the trailer and enjoy it very much. It is easy to assemble and the more often I am using it, the faster I am getting! We have only used it on paved roads and it does very well. It is a fantastic deal as well considering it also turns into a stroller.

Wonderful product, easy to use and smooth when on the bike. It does take alittle while for your little 16 month old to get used too, but he enjoys it now after only two rides. Great fun!!

Great Product

My husband and I use this bike trailer with our 2 toddlers. We wanted something inexpensive that was also a good sturdy trailer to use 1-2 times a week on paved roads or sidewalks. The trailer arrived super quick and only took 10 minutes to assemble and attach. The ride was great, my 2 year old and 3 year old sat in the trailer and chattered away the entire 30 minute bike ride! Very highly recommended product, I cannot imagine why we would need to spend $300-$400 on one?
